Evidence-based Practice Center Editorial Review Process
The Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC) editorial review process ensures the accuracy, quality, consistency, and credibility of its evidence reports, including:
- Internal review by Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) staff to assess adherence to EPC Program expectations
- Review by an EPC associate editor to assess adherence to established methodology and guidance for EPC-based evidence synthesis
- Peer review by topic and methodology experts and by stakeholders. The Scientific Resource Center manages this peer review independently from the EPC investigators who are producing the evidence reports
- Public review to solicit comments from the public at large
- Posting of the disposition of comments after the final report has been posted on the Effective Health Care Program Web site
By using this multifaceted review process, AHRQ is committed to producing highly useful reports for a broad audience of stakeholders.
EPC Associate Editors
The EPC associate editors are researchers who have been nominated and selected by AHRQ and the Scientific Resource Center leadership to provide scientific oversight to the authors of evidence reports. The EPC associate editors are leaders in their respective fields and are actively involved as directors or leaders at their EPCs. They represent a broad range of expertise in such fields as medicine and clinical epidemiology, as well as the methodology of evidence synthesis. Three EPC associate editors specialize in reports on research methodology.
To maintain the highest standards, the EPC associate editors do not review evidence reports produced by their own EPC or any other topic for which they have a conflict of interest.
